Levitation | a short film | Haiku Review

Haiku Review Challenge

After watching the short film Levitation . If you take the Challenge . Write a HAIKU REVIEW leaving your Haiku in the Comment section of this post . Express the views you feel about the ‘Moveable Painting’ [as I like to refer to GREAT short films.]

If this short film doesn’t inspire . A new short will appear next Friday in our Weekly Haiku Review.

The way I write Haiku is using the 5-7-5 syllable combination . I also often write more than one verse. It is an option . not a rule. Enjoy the fun and creativity of 1st) viewing the short film . 2nd) looking for your Haiku and creating it 3rd) sharing it if you so desire.

Here’s to the Haiku Review Challenge
Cheers! – j.kiley

Hawaii – The Pace of Formation | a short film

The most beautiful islands of Hawaii and the lava flowing creating new land. The closeness of a seemingly destructive part of nature turning into the extension of the islands through the hardening of the lava. Amazing visually. Awe striking. – j.kiley

Hawaii – The Pace of Formation

“Hawaii – The Pace of Formation” is a window into the creation of an island. The Kilauea Volcano’s continued flow of lava into the ocean is one of the few places in the world to provide a front row seat of an island’s formation. The Big Island is literally changing before your eyes. This vast island contains 8 out of 13 different climate zones in the world, each with unique ecosystems, making the Big Island one of the most ecologically diverse places in the world. To showcase its diversity, we wanted to slow things down and let its beauty speak for itself. Enjoy!

PARADISE . . . Delights | a short film

PARADISE, a contemporary interpretation of The Garden of Earthly Delights

“Studio Smack, best known for their music video Witch Doctor by De Staat, have released a new animation: a contemporary interpretation of one of the most famous paintings by the Early Dutch master Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights.

In their latest work, the group cleared the original landscape of the middle panel of Bosch’s painting and reconstructed it into a hallucinatory 4K animation. The creatures that populate this indoor playground embody the excesses and desires of 21st century Western civilization. Consumerism, selfishness, escapism, the lure of eroticism, vanity and decadence. All characters are metaphors for our society where loners swarm their digital dream world. They are symbolic reflections of egos and an imagination of people as they see themselves – unlike Bosch’s version, where all individuals more or less look the same. From a horny Hello Kitty to a coke hunting penis snake. From an incarnate spybot to headless fried chickens.

These characters, once precisely painted dream figures, are now digitally created 3D models. All of them have been given their own animation loop to wander through the landscape. By placing them altogether in this synthetic fresco, the picture is never the same. What the animation and Bosch’s triptych have in common is that you’ll hardly be able to take it all in, you can watch it for hours.

‘Paradise’ was commissioned by the MOTI Museum in The Netherlands for the exhibition New Delights, which is part of the Hieronymus Bosch 500-year anniversary. A gigantic video installation of this work was exhibited in the Museum but ended on the 31st of December 2016.”

See this amazing feat carried off perfectly and what a delight to view. A trippy visual/mind connective experience. – j.kiley

PARADISE – A contemporary interpretation of The Garden of Earthly Delights

We created a new and animated interpretation of ‘The Garden Of Earthly Delights’ by Hieronymus Bosch (it’s this painting: The Garden of Earthly Delights on Wikipedia). We were chosen to go crazy on the middle panel. So we did… in 4K! It is also an infinite loop in 4K. 4K 4K 4K!!!

Leningrad – Kolshik | a short film

The film opens with a woman singing an intense song in Russian. Cool! Goes well with the activity on the screen.

What an unusual experience. Don’t want to give any hints – just a glowing recommendation for film lovers who find originally to their taste. Also – recommend opening to full screen with sound up. Watch closely as the film progresses. Important to keep in mind a detailed recount of the action. ‘Leningrad – Kolshik’ and the song blend well as the tension and aghast minds in your head are being blow away. The singer infuses a passionate element to the building of the changing images occurring on the screen.

This film really trips my mind out. No idea what I was about to see could have prepared me for what was happening in the amazing visuals. Toking is advised but not necessary. Trip out is the word here. Have a majorly spellbinding experience. Hope it works for you. Short films do sometimes carry a wallop. Cheers. ‘It’s all just a ride.’

Over – Short Film

1-over-short-film-poster

Over presents a crime scene. During the course of 9 wide shots told in reverse order, we watch an intriguing story unfold. What has happened in this quiet neighbourhood? A murder, a hit-and-run, an accident? The reality is both profound, and deeply unexpected.”

2-over-flowers-on-side-of-road-by-park

Time in reverse. Watch as the views are seen backwards. Be diligent observing what seem like minor issues, reoccurrences and even the details of objects, which by themselves, may seem minor. All is relevant toward working backward for discovering the truth of what started the beginning of this way of revealing what is happening to the viewer. Me. Us. You. Pay close attention or you will miss. Weird. Quirky. Unexpected. Not impossible. Just unusual.

See if you ever come close to the actual motions that set this mystery growing. Watching OVER is like trying to unfold a memory in your mind – not forward from the start but backwards from the end – arriving at the beginning eventually. It feels impossible to do, but OVER does just that for you. – j.kiley
