Haiku Review Challenge

After watching the short film Why You Shouldn’t Be an Artist . If you take the Challenge . Write a HAIKU REVIEW leaving your Haiku in the Comment section of this post . Express the views you feel about the ‘Moveable Painting’ [as I like to refer to GREAT short films.]

If this short film doesn’t inspire . A new short will appear next Friday in our Weekly Haiku Review.

The way I write Haiku is using the 5-7-5 syllable combination . I also often write more than one verse. It is an option . not a rule. Enjoy the fun and creativity of 1st) viewing the short film . 2nd) looking for your Haiku and creating it 3rd) sharing it if you so desire.

Here’s to the Haiku Review Challenge

The Question Is . . . Film Character

'maggie the cat'

‘maggie the cat’

Who is Annie Wilkes? What film does she appear in? Who plays the part?

Now let’s see if anyone remembers her without first using search engines and/or IMdB. Use your memory recall. I belonged to a Cinema Discussion Group I discovered online back before Forums existed and the Internet was just beginning to take form. It was a knowledgeable group of Cinephiles discussing films in great detail. Often contributing film reviews just after a film was fresh on the big screen.

One day the thread was about a name I did not recognize but so many other members seemed very much in the know. You have to realize this was long before IMdB and for some reason I had not seen the film yet. I was brave enough to ask any of the members: “Who is Annie Wilkes?” I received multiple responses of amusement at my lack of knowledge . as though I was supposed to know who she was . what film her character was in . and what actor played her. When someone told me the answer I was surprised.

So now I am asking anyone out there if they know the answers to my questions. If you know the answers . indicate in the comment section a yes or no after you see the answer I reveal. I will include all the information you will need. For those who already remember her character right away or after a short pause recall in your memories just who ‘Annie Wilkes’ is . Congratulations! She is quite the character and she is played by someone famous today. She’s one of the best actors I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in many films and recently in a series TV Anthology. Just who am I talking about? I ask you one last time: “Who is Annie Wilkes?”

The ANSWER is:

‘Annie Wilkes’ is one of two main characters in a film adapted from a Stephen King novel. It turns out ‘Annie Wilkes’ is one scary individual. One day her dreams come true when she is able to rescue an extremely injured and unconscious man who was in a car accident. She found the man inside his car which is buried in the the snow.

It turns out he is her all time favorite writer with whom she is overly obsessed. After she gets him back to her house and settled. She decides she will take care of him while he heals. In her obsession . she is excessively angry with him. He did something in his writing career which she cannot forgive. In a series of books he had written . he made the mistake of killing off her favorite character . ‘Misery Chastaine’.

From this information I share . I ask you to watch the movie trailer below to get a taste of just how off her nut ‘Annie Wilkes’ really is. She is one freaking mother-f***king character who scares the shit out of me. I’ve watched this character in her role just once through. That was enough. I made several attempts to watch it again but it was too frightening a prospect for me.

The actor who portrayed ‘Annie Wilkes’ is [if you do not know by now] none other than the incomparable Kathy Bates. She won an Oscar for her portrayal of Annie Wilkes in the film ‘Misery’ and I dare anyone reading this to watch the film alone or with someone else. The someone else would more likely be preferred by the virgin viewers of ‘Misery’ . it truly is frightening. Be prepared for some bloody terrifying moments. There are many of those. – ‘maggie the cat’

Daniel Radcliffe b. July 23, 1989-it’s my birthday too.

I felt so excited the first time I knew. I have such a crush on Daniel but only since he grew out of playing Harry Potter. He is in competition with Robert Pattinson. I may not be into men, being a lesbian, but there are certain men who just have an attraction inside and out to everyone male and female. This is a delightful interview. I do hope you take the time to enjoy the complete talk. I’ve listened to this several times since Daniel first was on Inside the Actors Studio. He just does great talk. Enjoy him in all his directness and honesty. Also, study his beauty and handsomeness in the photographs I have chosen to display. He is physically, emotionally. psychologically and spiritually amazing.

The marvelous bpshielsy from the bipolar place has tagged me & asked some questions. If you don’t know him, you should, because as I said he’s marvelous so check him out

Here are the rules!

1. You must post the rules.
2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post.
3. Create eleven new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged. (i liked the questions and used them an added three of my own. it’s up to each of you to do what you will.)
4. Tag (eleven) people with a link to your post.
5. Let them know they’ve been tagged.

1. Who is a character you can relate to in a movie and why?

maria von trapp. i thought i wanted to be a nun. but more i wanted to be a member of such a loving family once they realized what being loved really was. when i first saw this movie i loved the innocent romance of it and saying fuck you to the baroness and then the nazis and escaping over the mountains to a new life. plus their life really was filled with the sound of music for real.

2. What was your favorite television show growing up?

Mary Tyler Moore Show. It showed that women could do it all.

3. Why did you start a blog on WordPress and what is the meaning behind your URL?

i wanted a place to express myself honestly about all things relating to life, emotions, thoughts, dreams and to bring the secrets out of the closet that all people had to hide for fear of being ridiculed or stigmatized or made to feel different in a negative way. plus, i love to write. i love the way my blog has developed beyond what even i imagined and all the wonderful people i have met and all that i learned. the name of my blog is “the secret keeper.” i lived with so many secrets and the lies that buried them. i felt it was time that secrets had to be revealed in an honest and caring way. and all the abusers that have been able to hide would be revealed. maybe not with specific names but that they exist and they are a plague to all innocence in this world.

4. Here’s a cliche question. If you could be one animal, what would it be and why?

A Black Panther. They are powerful and look right into your soul and they are mysterious.

5. Do you prefer ponds, lakes, or oceans? Why?

Oceans. i love the sound of the waves coming up onto the beach or crashing down on a rugged shoreline. during thundestorms, it is the most exciting time to view the ocean and also combine that with the night. scary but it makes you face your fears. and what a thrill.

6. If you had one day to live and you could only spend it with one person, who would it be and what would you do?

i would spend it with my significant other and we would play with all our furry, feathery children while watching every film we loved that we could fit into that one day. and we would be totally open with our feelings. hopefully in a tender way.

7. What is your favorite music album ever released?

John Lennon – Double Fantasy (past) Adele – 21 (present) (can’t chose between the two. i need john and adele in my life)

8. Would you prefer to have no legs or no arms? Why’d you pick what you picked?

No legs. there are always wheelchairs. i need my arms that are connected to my hands so that i could write and touch all the living beings that i love, animals and humans and the someone special in my life who has always been there. and i am not going to explain this one, if you don’t get it, you never will.

9. Would you rather have 110 degree weather or below zero weather? (for my Celsius friends would you like really fucking hot weather or really cold weather)

Really cold – i hate it when it is hot. when i am cold i can turn up the furnace and the radiator heater. we could snuggle with our animals under the comforters.

10. What is your favorite piece of artwork and who created it?

jackson pollock – any of his drip art & vincent van gogh – starry night (can’t chose between the two)

11. If you could create a type of Jelly Bean what would the flavor be?

it would have to be orange cream. orange is my favorite flavor but like a cream sickle, i think that would adapt to the jelly bean.

(i’m going to add three more questions that i created while playing a question and answer game with my significant other. it was quite fun and exciting. so put on your thinking caps and imaginations and travel through your mind to come up with these answers.)

1a. who in history would you want to go back in time for and be BFF(best friends forever) or lovers with? (make it bi if you wish and make two choices. one for each.)

i choose Jesus Christ and i would do my best to talk him out of listening to his Father. Don’t get crucified. (I have a need to save people from committing suicide. death by cross when at any moment he could have saved himself. did he really need to die to eat up our sins. really?) this was originally my first choice but then i forgot i would want to go back in time to befriend and to get close to Virginia Woolf. I would want to make her feel less crazy and help her to believe in herself. and i would try to stop her from putting that heavy stone in her coat and walking into that river to drown. once again i would hope somehow i could rescue her.

2a. what character in what book would you most want to be and/or to have lived their life?

Jenny Fields in “The World According to Garp.” She was a powerful woman who didn’t need a man for anything. She helped women who were lost and abused. She was assasinated by someone who couldn’t stand that after his wife read her book she liberated herself and left him. Some how i would want to block that bullet.

3a. what shakeseparian play would you like to have lived in and what character would you want to be or would want to be friends with but you are not a character written in the play?

Romeo and Juliet. i would not be a character that was written in the play but i would get to the place where Juliet was lying in wait, supposedly dead when Romeo finds her and i would get there just in time to stop him from taking the poison. i’d make him wait long enough to prove to him that Juliet was not dead. and all would be reunitd and all would live and there wouldn’t be a plague put on all their houses by the Prince.

The people I’ll tag are… Oh & you can answer the questions above. So I’ve cheated, sue me! but i added three of my own. the last three.

1. the light bearer novelist

2. therapy tales

4. only abundant knowledge

5. on the plum tree

6. moments with millie

7. mackenzie’s dragonnest

8. lightning pen
