WOMEN ALONE

The way was clear
Rebel forces were banned
They took to hiding in the woods
Danger would begin at sunset

They patched the torn blankets
To cover the windows at night
Keeping dark out and light in
The night would last too long

There was gun fire a distance away
It made the danger real for women alone
It was their world and lives to protect
A village where women found strength

The soldiers were off dying somewhere in the South
Fighting a new battle to free people held as slaves
If any person thought deeply what it meant
No one with a true heart would partake in such shame

~ ~ ~

NOT WELCOME HERE

The way was clear
Their patch of land
Village they cleared
Violence was banned
Town sign should read
The K.. rebels
Not welcome here
